Does God need man?

How Come God create people if he was experiencing perfect love in the trinity.
- Scott Davidson

God did not create human beings because He needed them. God is the only independent being; His existence is not contingent upon anything else outside of Him. In that sense, God did not create man because He had no other option or He needed fellowship desperately because He felt lonely. There is perfect love within the Trinity and God is satisfied in the fellowship that exists in the Trinity. That is why the Christian understanding of a Triune God is so critical. Religions like Islam and Judaism believe in Theism (belief in one personal God) but don’t have the concept of Trinity. The problem will be if God is personal then He needs fellowship. The question they cannot answer will be “With who was God fellowshipping with before He created man?” As Christians we who believe in Trinity can affirm that fellowship always existed within the Triune God and thereby we can maintain the fact that God is also a person. Belief in Trinity is an imperative in order to defend the existence of one personal God.

So God did not create man because He needed him. Revelation 4:11 says, “Thou hast created all things, and for Thy pleasure they are and were created.” God created all things for Himself, for His pleasure, and for His glory. God loves us but it is not the same as He desperately needs someone to love. God will be God even if He didn’t create us!

I think that your perception of the Trinity and what it is is a bit suspect!

I guess one could say that it sure feels good not to be needed. Great article. I feel better already. Perhaps man is not needed because of Divine lonliness. Perhaps man is needed, but for another purprose. Don't make the word need a "dirty" word. It's ok for man to feel needed by God. That's like me telling my wife, "I married you, not because I needed you, but because I want you." I don't think that would go to well with her. It's cold callous. So it is with your explanation. Interesting to see little humans run to defend God's lack of "neediness" for humans.

Joy is created through a relationship. If you love but doesn't share your love , you cannot receive love and feel joy. Even God follows this principle. God is a God of love if he doesn't share his love and establish a relationship with someone, He cannot feel joy. That's the reason God created man in His image. When man respond to God as his son, God feels joy. This is why the Bible says in Genesis: after creating man God said: "it was very good". And Gen 6:6, explains the suffering heart of God. Because his beloved sons and daughters deviated, God feels pain. Because joy comes from the give and take of love, God cannot experience joy alone.God can have give and take of love with cat, dos or tiger but the highest level of joy is through give and take of love with man. This is why God need man.
